Aha! And therein is the secret to QM's success..........you have to hold your mouth "just right".

I always love it when guys ask me "where did you catch that one?"..........I never miss a beat and say "In the mouth" and then make a hook with your finger and sort of put it by the corner of your mouth and say....."Right about there, right in the corner" ;-)

I like that lure BTW......football head style jig?

No, it is a brown and orange 1/4oz swim jig with a Berkley Havoc Pittboss. I cut the brush guard off of the jig- head.

Looked similar to this.......but without the brush guard

Great pic! It's nice to see that you never get bored with catching those really nice smallies, QMike.

....just when I think I've completed my lure selection for my 2017 trip......another post with a different lure hanging out of a beautiful bronze back's mouth. I committed to only one tackle tray this year, it's not even March 1, it's already pretty much full! I guess the planning, adding, and paring down of gear and tackle is all part of the pre-trip fun.

Great photo, Mike. I once fished Lake of the Woods with a fairly famous fisher, but I didn't realize the extent of that person's fame until we had people on the water and on the road hailing us. That'll be you soon, Mike, and you won't get to fish in peace!

Nice lure combo....I like it. A guy could be a "one trick pony" and use this one lure and do well on the big 4.

That would be a good fishing challenge.......one day, each angler uses the same lure........" dollar on the most and a dollar on the biggest" as my Dad would say.

I had no idea that these pictures were going to be used in their email newsletters and advertisements. I know the outfitters well. I worked at Piragis and I have been using Williams and Hall for my Quetico trips since the start. They (W&H) were called Tom and Woods when I first started going on adventures.

A couple of funny stories about Tom and Woods.....

On my first trip I knew I was heading to Canada for a canoe trip, but I thought I was going to this magical place called Tomlin Woods to start the trip. Told everybody I was going to Tomlin Woods in Canada. Didn't make the connection until we pulled into the parking lot and the sign said Tom and Woods.

On my second trip (my first as a leader) they asked me if we wanted to join them for breakfast before our tow to PP. I said sure, why not? Pancakes, sausage, and OJ. They kept coming by the table asking if I wanted more OJ. Sure, why not? So we finish breakfast and start heading down towards the tow boat and Tom comes running out of the kitchen cabin and yells, stop those guys, they didn't pay!!! I had no idea they were charging us for breakfast. They asked me if I wanted to join them for breakfast, I just figured it was complementary to go along with the outfitting, stay, tow, etc...... As he is yelling stop those guys I am thinking, where am I going to go and how was it that I was going to run away with a dine and dash. I couldn't go anywhere until the tow boat driver was in the boat. I couldn't drive off in my vehicle, the keys were in their safe. I also couldn't pay for breakfast because they had my wallet locked in their safe as well. I had to explain to them that I thought it was free and that they would need to open their safe so I could pay them. If I would have known that a small glass of OJ was a dollar back then I wouldn't have had 4 glasses....haha.

I forgot to answer your question about the lure. Yes, that is a ZMAN ShadZ ( AKA Zulu ). ZMAN manufactures the ShadZ ( split tail ) and the StreakZ ( single tail ). Then they also sell these same exact lures to Strike King and they rename the lures - Z Too ( split tail ) and the Zulu ( single tail ).
