That duckling post got me looking at some of the other new Savage Gear stuff........this Rat looks like a hoot! Makes me wish I could fish canoe country in the spring as this looks like good clean fun.

quote retired55: " Thanks MT. Now my wife really thinks I'm crazy. I have to try .....the RAT!!!!!"
Looks cool right? I will never forget fishing out of a homemade inner tube having used a semi truck tube and roped a wooden seat into the bottom........we would take this gargantuan fishing platform into backwoods lakes in Michigan which had no boat access.
"No-Lie" (the farmer didn't lie to us about the lake thus the name) was one of our favorites. Wooded round about but swampy on one end. My Dad and I were sitting and talking at the swampy end while I tossed a Heddon Field mouse.........suddenly I had a fish on and I'll be darned if the fish didn't "spool" me. I had probably lost track of the line amount on my much favored "Uni-Spin" outfit.......but there was little doubt it was a big fish.

quote missmolly: "That is a great video, MT! Where do you find all these lures?
Wouldn't you love to fish that little river with all those chunky pike?!?"
I just don't see how a fish has a chance anymore...........lures and knowledge has increased to such a sophisticated level. On the other side of the coin the new generation is largely disinterested in the outdoors and prefers i-pads and game consoles so fishing pressure is less........hey I love to throw a flash bang into a room and clear it much as the next guy but there is lots more to life than manipulating a bunch of buttons.
Anyway, that Rat, the Duckling and pretty much all of Savage gears stuff is very impressive........right up to the point where some part gets chewed off and you tilt your head and realize your wallet is much lighter........but, like lots of things in life (roller coasters, a good steak, making whooppee) its fun while it lasts.

Hooray! When Sartre wrote, "Hell is other people," he was talking about sharing ye olde fishing hole.
As far as making whoopie, when you do it right, it takes considerable
time.

Heh-heh. Just come to Maine, where everyone makes whoopie................................pies.

Actually I do want to skip on over to Maine. I am eyeing that 100 mile wilderness section of the Appalachian Trail. Looks rather interesting in spite of the skeeters......culminating with Mt Katahdin. Its just another thing on the bucket list.

Indeed that would be a treat.......I seen the pic you posted of your place and it looks lovely......good for you! I'll bet you could turn a dime if you so desired by running a B&B. Just have to get the whole quiche thing down pat. "Fish Quiche anyone"? ......"I made it myself" ;-)

I love fish quiche, but I'd like to figure how to hook a fish quiche on the surface. You know more lures and tricks than any fisher alive. How do I do it?

You sure know how to lay it on thick Miss Molly. I need you to educate my wife........when I come home from fishing I hear those three words every man wants to hear .........."ewwww, you stink"!!................and then when I tell her how the day went her eyes glaze over and roll into the back of her head..........and then she says "Its always the same story, it was this long (she spreads her arms far apart) and it jumped and broke your line" ;-)

I think you may need a hearing aid MT.

quote missmolly: "Are you fishing tarpon, MT? "
I don't fish for anything I can't eat.....pure caveman I guess. I have caught a fair share of Tarpon.......big ones over 180 twice broke me off. I like the little ones about 35lbs while backcountry snook fishing. A few jumps and they tire.
Snook jump and can break your line but mostly they pull hooks. They get up underneath the bushes and you try and stop them and their mouth comes apart. All my gal knows is it was a big battle with the fish winning (well, mostly ;-)

Finally have some post spawn bass around home. This bait is top notch. Can be slowly worked and makes a great wake for fish to key in on. Hard to find better action it's a blast to fish with. Excellent hook up ratios, much better than the frogs and poppers I'm used to using. Find out soon how it works in the BW. At 15$, I'm not throwing it out on anything less than 30 lb braid.
Jury is still out on duckling lure... appears to be a dud.
