I wanted to share this. Last year I took 1/4 inch plywood approx 8inchx20inch and used it for the bottom and sides of my food pack to keep things from being damaged. When in camp I used the board as a table for my cookstove and for cleaning fish (awesome for fish) or just a cutting board. I would be hard pressed to not bring it along in the future. The best material Ive found is 5mm baltic birch also known as Russian Birch it is a little thicker than domestic and has several plys my panels have not warped and should last for some time. I thought about laminating formica to them but I think they would be too slippery. Also round the corners a little so they dont cut your packs. I use 3 that maybe a little overkill 1 would suffice but there so handy I cant bear to leave them at home.

yep, they are my own designs.
the little, packable one is under 3, the long one is under 3 3/4.
baltic/finnish/russian birch is an awesome material. 1/4" equiv. has 5 plys and no voids. they claim to use non exterior glue to laminate the plys...if so, its better than any exterior glues we use here! i have had a small unfinished piece of it submerged in water (in a mason jar) for over 9 months now (just because i was curious) and not even a hint of delaminating.

see my previous post concerning pic location. look in the photo gallery.
packable table....approx. 17x17x16 3/4 high. made to fit in my food pack.
long table....12x32x18 high (no reason....its the scrap pieces i had left over)
drill press with a 1" forstner bit. the long table had gone thru various modifications so i didnt use 1' overall. (btw...this stuff will eat up a non-carbide bit!)
time consuming....messy....thats whats suppose to happen in a work shop. LOL Jan regarding dimensions...they are not set in stone.... i have a similar one (not for canoeing) thats 2'x4'x48" high. my portable deck bar.... :)
