Bannock - Yes that is a dog carrier. Freddie my 14 year old Beagle gets really cold if she is not walking around so she rides in it swaddled in down vests.
The soup is 15 bean with Italian Sausage. The temperature was in the low 40's and the soup really hit the spot that day.

food break, unnamed rapids, wabakimi park. we just barely made it down this tough little rapid. there is a marker nearby commemorating the life of a wisconsin canoeist who had drown in these rapids in the 1980's.

Perhaps they should move the marker to the head of the rapids, to provide the somber reminder before people try to shoot the rapids.

hiking stick. wabakimi is full of rapids that are potentially dangerous. by nearby, i mean about 15km away on a beautiful campsite on whitewater lake. apparently this young man had attempted to stay long term on this island, sort of like "into the wild", the family of the man had erected an expensive bronze plaque to his memory and maintained the campsite for years in his honor. a six star site.

Off the subject, but is that a Rhodesian Ridgeback in your picture?"
Why yes it is, his name's Memphis. We also had a Newfoundland and a Lab with us."
Quite the load of big dogs, hope they were in separate canoes! :-) Beautiful dogs. My older dog Karma is a Ridgeback mix, isn't as big as a ridgy though.

MGD: To me, that pic captures the heart of the BW experience right there. Something about the satisfaction of seeing the old man enjoying the fruits of a day's labor that gives nearly any cute kid pic out there a solid run for its money.
