I am working on a trip in August leaving out of Kawishiwi Lake. Does anyone have a suggestion of an inexpensive cabin nearby where we could spend the night before? I know there is one near Isabella by a little restaurant but I can't remember the name of the place. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Could you have been thinking of the Knotted Pine? I’m not sure of any others that are closer.

These say two night minimum only on weekends.

I can’t find any minimum for this place.
Crooked Lake Resort

I’m pretty sure Wildhurst in the Finland area has the two night minimum, and I don’t know any of the policies for National Forest Lodge.

Crooked Lake looks like a good option. Any idea how long of a drive to the EP from there? Have you stayed there?

Kawishiwi Lake has some campsites right on it if you can switch from cabin to tent (and get a spot).

I like Cliffdweller's in Tofte before entering from the northshore. Nice place, decent rates, good owners.

Our original thought was to stay at Kawishiwi Lake but there is a definite risk of not having a site open by the time we get there in the mid afternoon. Given there are four of us meeting from different locations, a cabin would be nice to be able to do a gear shakedown to make sure we don't duplicate and didn't forget anything before heading out for 8 days.

I haven’t stayed there but I meet one of the owners who were running their small store at the time. It seems like a nice place.

Since the place is a little less than 20 miles away, it should take about a half hour to get there.

We've always stayed at the Kawishiwi Lake campground, but finally hit a time we couldn't get one of the official camps. There is an "unofficial" campsite across the road from the parking lot. We planned a cold dinner/breakfast so as not to impact the area beyond putting up a tent for the night. Allowed us to get a real early start in the morning.

Thanks for the input everyone! We opted to spend two nights at the Crooked Lake cabin since we are all meeting up and need to do a gear shake down before heading out. Also, I have a long standing history of it raining when I camp.... so a dry start with our gear will be a nice change :)

We've stayed at Crooked Lake resort before. Not a bad place to hang out.
