I use this paddle as a backup. I have homemade wooden paddles I trip with, but like this as a solid backup. Little on the heavy side, especially since I rarely use it. I do like to use a straight paddle when I am out fishing in front of camp. I also use this duck hunting from my backwater square stern canoe. I cut a slot into the side of the blade so I could easily retrieve duck decoys by swiping it under the water and catching the decoy line.
Works well.
