Basswood Lake Fishing (10 photos)

I. Chilling in the breeze

"Chillax all day and fish all night/Law come to get you if you don't walk right."

The farewell till next time

Though I doubt 20 years are going to go by this time, both because I'm eager to return and also because I have my doubts about being around in 20 years. Visiting BWCA helps mitigate that, for sure.

Smallmouth FTW

I got the sense most folks were chasing walleyes, and they are inarguably delicious. But I can't get tired of catching bass (though my casting wrist and shoulder sure can).

Hammocking

I renegade camped two nights, but otherwise took up whole huge sites for just one guy with his hammock

F. Best and worst

This was probably my best walleye, but definitely not my best photo

E. Walleye time

For my trolling method, it was more a question on when than how: troll likely spots the hour or so before dark and you're fine

C. Pikewood Lake

Got a handful of really nice pike on the dahlberg diver

D. Scotch and hex

The hex hatch was definitely on, but it did not slow down the fishing nor the drinking

Basswood Bass

A pleasant surprise -- there are bass in Basswood Lake! (And woods all around it)

A. First fish of the trip

Busted out the fly rod on Range River and got started with this fine fish
