Day 1 of 4
Friday, February 11, 2011

The drive north from our home near Milwaukee, WI takes about 9 hours in the summer. Thankfully, the weather was great for our drive this time in winter and it is fairly uneventful. We didn't see any snow until we arrived in Duluth. The scenery is so different in the winter and still beautiful. We had the North Shore Drive and the Gunflint Trail almost to ourselves. Hardly a soul around. We are greeted by Sheryl at Gunflint Lodge late in the afternoon and get settled into one of their great cabins. We got there just in time for the setting sun.
