Scouting the Wisconsin/Michigan Border
by spankatolla

Trip Type: Paddling Canoe
Entry Date: 07/20/2011
Entry & Exit Point: Other
Number of Days: 7
Group Size: 3
Trip Introduction:
Sister had lost her job and gotten a divorce, so our trip to visit our brother out east was cancelled. I hadn't taken my yearly trip to the bdub yet and was beginning to get impatient. So with the help of my three year old nephew, we all three went to the Wisconsin/Michigan border to scout the Turtle Flambeau, Sylvania Wilderness, and Northeast Wisconsin's wildernesses (Blackjack, Headwaters, and Whisker Lake).
Day 1 of 7
Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Left Mendota by 7 am and reached Murray’s landing of the Turtle flambeau by 2 pm. Wind was 20 mph out of the SW. Talked with a kayaker that was on his way out and he emphasized huge white caps on the main part of the lake. I decided we would take one of the first two sites. We settled on the second campsite (P39). Set up the dining fly in record time due to the flies. Got the tent set up and went swimming due to 95 degree heat. Ahh!!!! Carmen and Alex went to the toilet and couldn’t make it due to the wonderful flies biting. We would be confined to the dining fly or tent for the next two days due to the flies. We cooked fillets on the grill and had dinner with pasta salad and potato salad. Went to bed around 10:30. Hot, Hot, Hot!!!!!
