Report
Lilcowdoc needed a Gunflint "fix" and volunteered to work a few days at Tuscarora. She spent 3 great summers working there during her college days and loves to go back. The wife and I tagged along and got a cabin and a few days to fish and mostly do nothing. We stopped in Duluth on the way up for pizza at Sammy's and a quick chat with Marty (h2o). Then it was on to Palisade Head. The air was a little hazy, but still a nice view. Stopped at the Fish Market in GM for smoked salmon and Lake trout. Snagged some leeches at Bucks and picked up a few groceries before heading up the Trail. Cabin 6 was waiting for us at Tusc. I took 2 dozen ears of sweet corn and a couple pounds of good Wisconsin cheese over to the crew mess hall and said "enjoy". Supper was at Gunflint out on the terrace and a little chat with Mocha. Fishing on Round the next day yielded many SMB but many were small. I did get one nice walleye. We toured Chik Wauk later and Lilcowdoc and I took a 45 minute hike back to the Magnetic Rock. Some pretty views back there. A short power outage sent us into town for supper at the Gunflint Tavern and a cool walk down by the harbor. More fishing the next morning and a visit from a group of otters. They are my wife's favorite critter and it made her day. I found some deeper water where bigger fish were and got a few nice ones. It was off to Honey Moon Bluff for a short hike and some nice pics. Rest of the day was spent lounging back at the cabin and beach. Rounded off the day with supper at the Trail Center...a must! On the last morning, like early every morning, I took a quick solo paddle across Round Lake and back, and then took a couple of serene pics of my 2 favorite girls.....my Malecite and Indy......JK! LOL! Loaded up and headed home. It was pretty fun doing nothing.
