jcavenagh: "I see where they now indicate there is parking at Sassenach Lake....I don't see any obvious spot on Google maps, but maybe someone has coordinates???" Where did you find that James? I looked on the Ontario Parks website but couldn't find anything. There is a turnout near Virginia lake, but a friend of mine checked out going into Virginia and Valley (a bit further north) and found nothing in terms of viable portages. One would have to re-cut them to get through to the lake. |

I chose Wabakimi as my park and then saw 4 entry points on the map. The entry point labels have little cars associated with them. The map legend says that indicates drive in access. So I am guessing there is a parking area for those entry points. We know about the Smye parking. There is a spot to park at the Little Caribou bridge. I have been there. There is definitely road access to Obonga Lake with several possible parking areas. So that leaves Sassenach. Google maps (satellite view) shows a "road" coming around the north end of Valley and ending at the very NE point of Sassenach Lake. (50.482015, -90.209296) But that road could be pretty iffy I would think. I remember Ken was up that way a couple years back, but I don't think he went around Valley Lake and then back south toward Sassenach. I sent Shannon Lawr a note asking for any info he can provide. |
