The best combo that I've found is an iPhone or similar phone with Gaia GPS. You can download multiple layers to your phone ( with a subscription). I'm headed up to Wabakmi for 12 days and don't leave home without Gaia & a set of Topos printed from Caltopo.com.

In addition to the FoW books, I use the Earthmate app on my iPhone paired with my InReach and the downloaded Ontario maps. Are you looking for more layering?

I have the latest version of Trakmaps from a couple of years ago. Much better detail than the previous version. Never used it on my trips though. I'm not much of a GPS kinda guy. I prefer the Wabakimi Project map booklets.

+1 on what Goatroti said. I have Vol 4 of this chip (Ontario) for Garmin and it has worked fine for me. But like goatroti, I have always used topos and WP map booklets. However, the gps chip in my Garmin was quite useful 5 years ago on a 3 wk trip from Allanwater Bridge to Lake Nipigon. We used it mostly to verify our position on some of the large lakes on the Allanwater Rv system.

I need to learn how to do this.

The guys I was just with in Atikaki all had this feature/setup with their Inreach minis. I was just clunking along with my old Delorme Inreach and a separate Garmin GPS. It seemed to work really well for them with high quality resolution.

Hi Wabakimi Travelers,

I'm looking to purchase a GPS chip for my Garmin that covers the Wabakimi. Does anyone have any recommendations? We are considering Backroad Mapbook or TrakMaps. If anyone has experience with those products it would be great to hear your experience.

Thanks.
