My husband and I have the EXP crew 9x11.5 and it's perfect as far as space, could fit a third person if we had to, but perfect. We also went with the med. sized stove and that thing makes it HOT in there if stoked to do so.
Really easy to put up, frame first! LOL We learned that the hard way! :)

Have you tried to use it in real cold conditions yet? If so, how warm does the tent stay over night?"
I have the 10 x 13 EXP Crew. It will "sleep" four people. I use it solo. Plenty of room, and I have the Snowtrekker Medium sized stove. The stove heats the tent to shirt sleeve temperature, and will keep it warm as long as you are willing to man the stove.
However, I don't tend the stove all night. Around bedtime, heat some water, pour into a Nalgene that goes into my sleeping bag. Keeps me comfy at night, and gives me unfrozen coffee water first thing in the morning. I let the stove wind down, and head for the comfort of my snuggly sleeping bag. Wake up in the morning, the inside temperature equals the outside temperature.
Fire up the stove and we are cozy within a few minutes. Make coffee, cook breakfast, drive the frost away...........life don't get no better.

I'm considering purchasing a winter hot tent, and I'm trying to decide if I should get the basecamp tent or one of the smaller versions. I will most likely be doing solo trips, but sometimes I may have my 10 year old boy with me. What I'm trying to figure out is with the extra space (which will be really nice to have even if it just me), is it going to take way more wood chopping duties to keep it warm? It's it going to be way heavier/bulkier to sled in? (keeping in mine that I will be just me hauling all of my camping/ice fishing gear). Thank you for your thoughts-Bill

A few weeks ago it was 20s in Ledges, since then with the holidays we haven't been able to go out, but we have plans to go next week :)

My advice is to go with a smaller tent since you will be hauling the tent solo most times.
