There are plenty of clues provided to figure it out... I think you need to watch closer...and use the pause in A strategic frame. Your guess is a fair ways off.
I "think" i have it figured out and he didn't say "jap"... Close though.
Edit: looks like the video got shutdown for copyright infringment...too bad. You have to watch the music you put on those.

and you may know this but for those who don't I believe J and A were the first initials of the Paulson's-hence the acronym JAP"

You learn something knew every day! Quick Google search...James and Ann or John and Addie Paulson were the owners of an Iron mine near the Gunflint Trail in the 1880's.

IT's not too hard to figure out what lake we are on if you listen to the commentary. Not worried about the lake because of the difficulty of getting to it. I would not do it again unless the conditions were right and I had a satellite Phone.

The link still worked for my so I'm Not sure what happened ^^^

Prior to smalltown's final commentary I was leaning towards Alpine
My Columbo deductions...
Entry point 54... Seagull (written on permit)
Burnt out area...Cavity Lake or Ham Lake fire
Topography...reminded me of Alpine
Travel distance...assumption 6-7 miles
Lake Trout...Alpine or Jap (Paulson for the politically correct)
Final Commentary..."So, that's it for our Jap fishing trip, 2014, over and out"
