My crew in August will be coming out of the Quetico and viewing Kakabeka Falls then coming down the North Shore. If they want a visit at Gooseberry Falls, we will get into Two Harbors after Judy's closes at 7. What are alternate suggestions for a modest meal when there are kids along?

I have eaten at Blackwoods, and very nice. These kids are more into dipping chicken fingers into gravy. Alternatives?

Camp 61 in Beaver Bay (next to the Holiday store) has really good BBQ, and is kid friendly (brown paper tablecloths with crayons provided for drawing). I know that's backtracking a little from Gooseberry but worth mentioning.
I'll second the Duluth Grill, and add the New London Cafe in Lakeside (Duluth) as a good, reasonably-priced option for a family.

Vanilla Bean in Two Harbors. Kid friendly and adult choices also. Affordable!

Rustic Inn Cafe is only three miles from Gooseberry Falls State Park and it has a kids’ menu. But it also closes at 7pm (8pm Sat, Sun). Perhaps you could eat first then backtrack to the Park.

No one mentioned Betty's Pies, kid friendly and reasonable.

+1 on Betty's Pies, even if it's just for dessert
If you are near Grand Marais, My Sisters Place for dinner

Have to say I've never been very impressed with Blackwoods. I've found it to be very mediocre food for pretty high prices.
You can eat much better food for about the same price at the Duluth Grill. True, it's not quite on the shore, but it's not very far away and it's an incredible restaurant.

My Sister's Place on the east side of Grand Marais is quite good. It is a bar/restaurant, and try to stop there every time I overnite in GM, unless I ate earlier on the Gunflint at Trail Center. My Sister's Place has pretty typical bar food pricing, but it is less than the Gunflint Tavern by about 25% if I remember correctly. Better burgers too.

Northwoods Family Grille in Silver Bay. Try the Maple Bourbon Bacon Burger. I can no longer drive through Silver Bay without stopping to have one. I would drive an hour for it any day!
