quote Arkansas Man: "Maxx,
Here's a recipe I use and adjust as desired to make granola. It has the nuts, oats and peanut butter you requested. It's from an old friend named Snowdog

Hippie Tripping Granola
5 C. rolled oats
1 1/3 C. wheat germ
1 C. sliced almonds
1 C. sunflower seeds (unsalted)
1 C. banana chips, crumbled
1 C. coconut
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 C. honey
1/2 C. vegetable oil
1 C. dried mangoes, dried blueberries, raisins, or the like (optional)

Cooking instructions:
Mix all other dry ingredients except dried fruit together in a big bowl. Stir together vanilla, honey, and oil in a small bowl until well blended. Pour this mixture into dry ingredients and mix well with both hands (you can use a spoon or gloves if you're squeamish about this). Spread mixture onto 2 cookie sheets and bake at 300 degrees for 20-30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Let cool and store in airtight container.

Variations/Hints:
Omit the dried fruit and bake for only 20 minutes if you will be using the granola for Granola Bars

I've made these (and still have some in my freezer) and can attest to the fact that they are awesome (when I get the recipe right!).

Here's the recipe to make the Granola bars which I do, and they are great!

Recipe Ingredients:
1/2 C. softened margarine (1 stick)
1/4 C. honey
1/2 C. brown sugar (packed)
1/2 C. peanut butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

5 C. Hippie Trippin' Granola
1/2 C. mini chocolate chips

Cooking instructions:
Mix together all ingredients except granola and chocolate chips, then stir in granola and chocolate chips. Press mixture into a greased 9X14 pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Partially cool and cut into 16 bars.
Variations/Hints:
Use mini M&Ms or raisins instead of chocolate chips. Continue to burn incense and play trippy folk rock CDs for an authentic granola-bar-making experience. If you have an old Peace Medallion, so much the better.
Comments:
Once you try these you'll never use store-bought again. They are great energy boosters on heavy travel days or a fast breakfast that can be eaten on the go. Make them as close to your departure date as possible for maximum freshness.

I suggest switching out the margarine in the granola bars for something healthier- maybe a blend of coconut oil and butter. Margarine is really bad for your circulatory system.

Yeah, but you can counteract that by washing it down with bourbon!!

I thought Gorp stood for Good Old Raisins and Peanuts? These recipes sound like something completely different. My Gorp is also called a trail mix, which has the above plus peanut M&Ms, regular M&Ms, Toffee peanuts, Sunflower seeds, sometimes Almonds, sometimes cashews, various dried fruits.

Does your recipes go by a different name than Gorp? Just curious now. Maybe just the name Gorp and Granola bars are being mixed up?

Mike,
my GORP is also nuts, dried fruit, and some M&M's. However when Maxx said he wanted it Cooked with oats and peanut butter, I assumed it was more like Granola. Hence, the recipes I posted, which are very good if you like granola, or granola bars.

I lost my GORP recipe. I realize there's about 650,000 ways to do this, this one was a rolled oats and peanut butter recipe sorta like Sue Prom makes at VCO. Really all I need is the oats/peanut butter amounts and the baking time/temp. Everything else is subjective anyway.
