Anyone have pics of the falls?

The National Park Service has a very well done interpretive center there with good information about the First Nation people who first inhabited the area and about the voyageurs and associated fur trading activities. They have also partially recreated the original fur trading post and there is additional interpretive information there.

HIgh Falls of the Pigeon River is definitely worth the drive and then the hike. there is a trail on the MN side (mostly paved and ADA) and there is a trail on the Canadian side (all dirt and not ADA; need passport to get across border both ways).
The PowWow is amazing!!! esp the Grand Entry. if you ever have the chance to attend just once i just bet you'll love it.

Can you see the falls without crossing the border?
I will see if I can make it to the PowWow.

Yes, from the MN side. Trail goes to it, good views. Mocha's comment about a passport was referring to going on the Canadian side. You need a passport to go there and to come back into the U.S.

What is good to see in Grand Portage?

OK. Thanks.
I did some googling and found that they also have the state's largest waterfall, have you seen it?
They are also having a rendezvous on the 2nd weekend of August, have you ever checked it out?

Could very well been. I really can't say if I remember the canoes - just that it had a flying moose on it.

If it had a Spirit II and a Magic on the top it was me. We ate in town and then headed up to visit Grand Portage. We had never been there and it was a very good visit.

I did not see 1 flying moose this year between my early May solo to Mudro, Memorial Day weekend daddy/daughter trip to Swan from Bower Trout, or our family's 5 night stay in a cabin on the Gunflint Trail last week. This includes all the driving to and from/ around Ely, Grand Marais, and up and down the Gunflint Trail several times.

just throwing this in because it is on the way up the shore from grand marais to grand portage. it's the Kadunce river. winter is easiest to hike up the river bed, carefully as you can hear the water beneath the ice. pretty sure the hiking trail from hwy 61 inland would hook up with the Superior Hiking Trail.

Thanks for clarifying. Do you recall how long of a hike it is to the falls?

White pickup in downtown Grand Marais today around 1:00pm. We were in a green Ford with MNII on top.
