I done a lot of canoe and a lot of back packing.

Leave the Duluth packs for the canoeing trips.

If then I don't even use them for canoeing any more.

A dedicated back pack well make your life a lot easier in the mountains.

That said it looks like a nice place.

That's very kind of you, Linden, and thank you for the offer, but I don't need a pack that badly. This may be my last summer in Washington and I'm probably only going to get out a few more times before the snow flies. I may be moving to Minnesota after that and am all set up for canoe tripping. Feel free to offer it to someone else who needs it more than I.

Part of me kinda wants to take the Duluth pack out so it can see some sights out west before going back home to Minnesota. When I eventually come back to hike after that, I will likely have gone ultralight myself.

You're absolutely right about that, but I'm working off of a limited budget and this is what I have. It works.

Sag Joe,
Beautiful, rivals anything here in AK.
PS, I've got a 20 year old North Face backpack, that's in perfect shape.
It's been to some awesome places in those years.

I'd let you have it for shipping cost from Ak.
Its nice and worth some dough but i don't need the money, and I'd like to see it go to a worthy home.

Probably cost 30-50 bucks to ship it.
Let me know.
A pic of it is my profile photo with my dog.
I'm six feet tall. The back pack is a little heavy for me, probably weighs around 4 pounds.
I've started going ultralight and already own it's replacement.

I remember the Icicle River and drinking from a glacier-fed stream and hiking up to a lake to trout fish. That trip I also got to see Mt. St. Helens BEFORE her eruption and remember it looked like Mt. Fuji; it was beautiful! That would have been 1975.

It's not looking like I'm going to get a Boundary Waters trip in this year. But I've not been missing out on my outdoors time. I've taken five or six day hikes already and just today got back from a 3 day, 2 night trip in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, in the Cascade Mountains of Washington. Here's a link to my report, on the hiking messageboard, with lots more pictures.

Mastertangler's been up this way too, I know.

I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have about Alpine Lakes Wilderness hikes. I carried my Duluth #3-70 pack, yep, same one I take canoeing, and was sure happy to have that tumpline.

Beautiful country, Joe, and nice write up. When I was younger than you (15) we visited friends in Wenatchee and went hiking up near Leavenworth. Would have liked to have spent a week up there instead of just a day!

Outstanding joe........the Tuck and Robins lakes were strongly recommended to me but it didn't work out. Looks gorgeous! I have fond recollections of Marmot and Jade.

Do you happen to remember where you went in that area? I've hiked in that area also.
