There were a total of Four Northstars, three northwind 17' and one 18' (three seat). The first 17' had a nasty dent/bend in the aluminum gunwale, went for $750. The next two I thought were in pretty decent shape, some scratches but no damage, went for $900 & $950. The 18' went for $1900, I am not sure why, I thought that was more than outfitter used prices. Besides the Northwinds everything else was fairly old and well used.

Thanks for letting us know how it went. I'm glad I decided not to go. Sounds like I would not have been able to get back on the road to get home in time if I had gone. I would have needed to leave around 1:00.

Also, fear of how rough of shape the canoes would be in kept me from taking the chance and it sounds like that fear played out to be true. When we bought our used canoe from an outfitter a few years ago we spent a Saturday looking at the used canoes at every outfitter in Ely and the ones at WO were really bad shape.

How much did the Northstars go for?

Two Northstars went for around $900-1000, while the one in much better condition went for 2K (last canoe of the auction).

The aggregate bid was met by the time they began auctioning the canoes. Or one or two lots into the canoes. The majority of kevlar canoes went for ~300-450 from my memory, though they were mostly in terrible shape. 12 years plus or minus of outfitter use and they get pretty beat up. Overall prices seemed to be quite reasonable, with some exception. Auction took 4 hours. Took them another ~hour and a half or so for them to begin allowing payment. Only had one cashier going, so then it was a long wait yet again. I would have thought their process would have been a little better beings it seems the same group travels to the auctions. Why not start allowing payments once the aggregate bid has been beat, once they knew it was going to be sold by the individual lot.

Royce is right on as far as how the auction played out. I was a little surprised at the condition of most of the canoes also.

How did it turn out? Did it seem like other outfitters we're buying, or was it mostly just people picking up some used gear?

Auction has begun, seems things are going at a fair price.
