Boy, is it Castle Danger? Just south of Gooseberry? That restaurant that has the got pies sign on it. Ate there last week and had the best service and great food. I usually take the back way across to Virginia out of Silver Bay. So I was pleasently surprized as I'd never had breakfast there. I just remember their pies were way better than the pie I had at Betty's after they changed hands.

Rustic Inn in Castle Danger. Way better pies than the mass-produced jobs at Betty's, and the wait is shorter too (though usually there is a wait).

Why not just eat at Britton's in Ely, and enjoy the ride home? You get enough food there to last 6 hours or more! :)

Personally I'd avoid Betty's Pies. Its usually a long wait and each time I've had breakfast there I've left disappointed. The pies are good but the last 2 times I've been there they were out many of the pies. The rest of the food is subpar compared to other options along the north shore.

Judy's in Two Harbors (right on 61) is very good. I always make a point of stopping there on the way home after a trip. If you are going through Superior, WI on Hwy 53, I think the Perkins Pancakes is good, but I have not been there in many years. I like Judy's as it is mostly the locals and some BWCA campers for the most part for their clientele.

+1 with enthusiasm

My best breakfasts have been at Judy's when returning from a trip up north. Not only tasty but generous portion size.

I've heard good reviews of breakfasts at The Lemon Wolf in Beaver Bay and I think it's the Splashing Rock at Grand Superior Lodge. I have always wanted to try them but I'm always in a hurry so I grab a sausage and egg at Kwik Trip in Twarbers.

In Duluth, go to the Duluth Grill. Fantastic food and service! You may need to wait, but it is oh-so-worth it.

Love the local small town places. You're not the first person to bring up that place's name. Putting that at the top of my list.
