Hey Jerry
Heard you guys were moving. You better keep a bottle of Captain Morgan around for the move!!! Good luck on the move. Maybe you will even get out of the smoke we have had lately. Larry

As you may have heard Larry, we are going to Foresthill. The Foresthill High School mascot is The Wildfires.
Even so, there appears to be fewer fires up there now. An important thing is that the forest is not dead from bark beetles like it is here.
We will be at an equivalent elevation, given the more northern latitude....maybe a little higher. We seem to be above the California buckeyes up there.

Reason for the move: The grandkids live in nearby Auburn.

Glad you found the present! About the same time you hid her gift I hid a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies in hopes I would forget where and not devour a whole box during a hunger crave. I succeeded and found a box of Thin Mints and DoseyDos in a portage pack recently. They were still moist and fresh and have a half life of a Hostess Twinkie.

Are there fires near you? Are you moving out of the Sierras?

She would have been more excited if she weren't so stressed by the move. We've filled two dumpsters. Three would have been perfect. We just ran out of plastic garbage bags. We'll probably up most of the night.
Hoped everything would fit in the moving van and our cars. Now we think we'll have to return with a U-haul.

Sixteen months after buying my wife's birthday present and ten months after her birthday, I found it. Having bought the jewelry item six months prior to her birthday, I had to put it out of sight. Being concerned about my compromised short-term memory, I put it where I was sure to look. That is all I remembered, "it is somewhere I'm sure to look."
The fact that we are moving tomorrow had my hopes up until a few days ago. We were going through 35 years of accumulation and I figured that the process would reveal the long forgotten hiding spot. However, a couple of days ago I threw in the towel.

Bottom line: I found it right where my first guess indicated it would be.... a small drawer of unorganized nic-nacs. My eyes where searching for a small box. Consequently, the item in its transparent bag was not registering in my brain. Meanwhile I turned the rest of the house upside down in the effort to find it.

This episode sort of reminds me of my first solo trip to the BW in my early sixties. I had to pitch on a solid rock because of campground flooding. I couldn't find my inflatable mattress even though I checked every pack multiple times. As darkness started to close in, I decided that I had forgotten to bring the mattress and the only way I'd get any sleep on solid rock was if I was drunk. So.....out came the Captain Morgan and a cigar and I went to work.

After completing the job, I staggered back to my pack to bring out the headlamp. In the total dark, my hand closed on something I immediately recognized as the feel of my missing air mattress. In the day-light, I had been looking right at the mattress and not recognizing it.
I can no longer drink Captain Morgan.

There are two things that really bother me about being a gezzer.

The first thing is my loss of memory and I forgot the second thing.

They say short term memory is the first to go. Then, long term memory. Then, it's short term memory.
