Good idea! I like that as long as it wasn't to much to carry....

This could be the eagle that chases away the gulls that got there first."

It works the best on bigger water where there is gulls. They watch you dump the fish and start squawking. The squawking is what attracts the eagles. It’s fun to watch the eagles fly in and take over.

Once up on the Albany River we put the guts out at sunset on a gravelly point near the edge of the woods. Next morning we could hear the gulls squawking and the eagles crying because the crows had dragged the guts into the woods and neither the gulls or eagles could get in there for a feed. I think the loudest sound was the crows laughing.

Three trail camera shots from my short October trip.

I agree. I wonder how many bears stroll through a campsite and never get noticed."

I've always wondered if there aren't more bears and other critters than people ever know, so I did bring up a trail cam his spring and set it every night pointing toward my barrel and the campfire area in the background. Nothing in 6 nights! I do plan to keep trying. "

That's one of those things-you don't want any bears in camp but nice to get pictures.

There very addicting,
I got into them very heavy and keep buying a couple more each year of the next years model. I have enough for a while like too many fishing lures.
I do get a tremendous lot of Rec time from them tho. Had them out since July 1 and got about 14 different bears, bobcats, a few wolves, fishers and finally this week a lot of bucks showing up.
Had many of bear look at my camera and they pushed them around the trees numerous times.
I have friends get a picture of a bear just as he is swatting the camera and smashing it to pieces.

As you learn also remove twigs or grass in front of the camera or you will also get false pictures. All mine take AA batteries and like when it goes below zero I leave a couple cmeras out but go to lithuim(sp)batteries.

I base camped on Agnes during the first week of September this year and we were frequently visited by the local family of otters...come to find out, they were casing the joint! On the third night those little buggers emptied our minnow bucket. Every last minnow was gone! It would have been interesting to see them in the act. Smart animals those otters..."

They are good fishermen and efficient.

I'm surprised this hasn't come up before. Maybe a pack space issue?

If you do decide to put one up, if you get some good pics don't forget to share!

Remember 10 years ago, when several campers in the Agnes/Iron area were getting their leeches stolen? Some at night, some during the day while on a day trip. The trail camera would have been nice to have then...catch the d-bags in the act.

Stealing leeches? I think that's when you know you've hit rock bottom.

Tony That would be good !

As it turned out, I set up the camera facing towards the fire grate.
Nothing but me showed up ! They were some pretty bad pics, that will be deleted soon!
It was fun, and added a new thing to do! The almost first thing I did when I returned home was to check the card. I will take the Trail cam along again for sure next time !

Thought of this last year, about taking a trail camera along on a solo trip.
Set it up at camp while I'm away.
What do you think ?

It would be interesting to see what came into camp when I was out fishing. Probably get pictures of chipmunks trying to get into the food pack.

Clever!

I have always considered using a predator call in canoe country but one does so with a bit of risk. Owls always show up first and are very neat to see but calling in a bear, lynx or a wolf could happen as well. Might be kind of neat to use the trail camera in conjunction with a predator call (dying rabbit works great and a house cat mewing calls in the bobcats and probably lynx). Just have to figure out the most likely scenario and the trail the predator would use. Could work.

I'd set the trail cam at a portage landing and watch the people; they are hilarious animals. I bet the wildlife that use the portages would be interesting to see too. Plenty of gorp, grapes, goldfish, etc. laying around after people snack before pushing off.
