Does anyone have a good way to get sap of a rain tarp? It's a CCS nylon tarp. When we took it down at the last site, we found a few large spots of sap. I'd like to clean the sap off before I roll it up and put it away for the winter.

Use rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer.

quote dew042: "Goo Gone would make me nervous, it can melt synthetics. Get it on an off quick.

Any vegetable oil works great for sap, and is great for sticker residue and it can't hurt anything. Some time you have to let a oil soaked paper towel sit for a while to loosen up whatever you are trying to get off.

"

That's Goof Off that will melt nylon as its acetone. Goo Gone is more like an oil stuff like WD40.

There was an article on another website where a guy tested all sorts of products for removing pine sap from fabric like tents, packs, etc. He found that Goo Gone worked the best. Here is a previous post on the same topic. Pine sap removal

Good information... I'd add, back in 2012 on day one of my forty day adventure I paddled Gunflint to Rose. I leaned my new that year pioneer pack against a tree not realizing the sap oozing there. Seeing it a little late I had no idea what to do. So I put toilet paper on it to keep it from spreading or getting on things. Worked well, it's still there several trips later. Haha. My point would be maybe find out what works best for you and maybe fill a little 2oz nalgene and carry with. Of course many of us carry hand sanitizer so maybe a mute point. But in the case of maybe you find goo gone to be a better option this would be good to have.

Thank you for the replies. With all these options I'm sure I'll be able to get it taken care of.

I've scrubbed it with soapy water. It initially removes the tackiness, but the sap stays there. Ultimately it turns chalky and flakes off. Washes off easier then too.
