quote Pinetree: "Wonder has anyone got a deer tick in Ely yet-ever." Not quite Ely, but I was camped just west of Cook year before last in November and found a fully encouraged one on my dog. |

quote nctry: "Yes, my son was taking care of winterizing my bee hives since I'm unable to. He couldn't believe all the tick's." Ben can you remember when deer ticks first showed up in your area? I was working by Mille lacs in 1991 and than deer ticks were just moving westward and the east side of Mille lacs had them but not the Brainerd area or west side of the lake(sure their probably was a couple). By 1992 Brainerd had them and still up by Longville it was a couple years later so the advancement north was on. Wonder has anyone got a deer tick in Ely yet-ever? I know Gunflint up the trail if they have them must just be recently? Brule lake area a few years back. Either way I hate them. Still remember a warm deer season, climbing up in my tree stand and on my hand was a deer tick. I even have got a couple them on a warm sunny day when snow was on the ground-go figure? They crawl up on the twigs just waiting for me. Little side note: My brother has land south of Brainerd and his neighbor is a huge honey bee person. Today the cute little guys were flying around. |

When November rolls around even Mid October 15 years ago in the Brainerd area north we would have freezing temperatures most nights. Now like the last two nights low has been about 52 degrees and high 75 degrees. Yes in recent years it seems we start getting more deer ticks mid September and they build into October. A week ago Wednesday I had a total of 45 deer ticks on my pants by Longville. This week I went out with my permethrin treated pants and had only a couple but also stayed out of the brushy- tall grass areas. Lat few years I get a couple deer hunting in November even. I did hear -9 degrees F. will kill them. But I wonder I thought they could go dormant througout the winter unless maybe they bury themseives int he leaves and snow? Tough ombres |
