Logged on to Duluth News Tribune and read about the possibility for 750 to 1000 new campsites in the BWCA by 2025. Number one complaint over the years has been available permits so they plan to bump the total from 2000 to hopefully 3000 campsites in to coming years to increase availability. I guess I'm against more campsites but I do see their point. The DNT article Link also has a USFS.GOV email thing to comment as they want feedback.

I thought this was supposed to be secret for another day but stuff from the recently passed federal budget has been leaking.

So they are increasing the number of campsites, but still keeping the number of permits the same?

Are they going to have the new two story thrones as well?

I know it's news and just came out, but it seems I've read that DNT article before.

keeping the number of permits the same might reduce the impact on the existing campsites. Would be an awesome Eagle Scout project for scouts....

Their attaching bun warmers to the seats I heard for cold weather camping.

I wasn't really excited about the additional campsites.

But the proposal to pave the longer portages and have segways for rental was intriguing. ;)

I would eat a dozen plates of baked beans and waft some stink bombs across the bay to fight off encroaching neighbors assuming they up it to 5,000 as some are still fighting for.

why build more when from what I've seen there are unused or little used sites.
I wonder what the % of used sites is V.S unused.
I do all of my camping at the western end of the park and find camps that the FS
has just left to grow over which means people pile into few sites that look trampled
down.

D'uh. I fell for it, at least for a minute or two. Good one!

It doesn't sound too far fetched for the federal government to propose such a thing.

I heard they were taking reservations. Make mine the Taj Mahal. On a point. With a pristine lake for my reflecting pool.
Ok, I got a Taj3 tent. When it doesn’t leak it’s the closest to Shangri La I may ever get. And I’m cool with that.

What the BWCA is really missing is some hot springs or pools to soak in like you find out west. That would really feel good at the end of the day paddling.
