This is the original song it was based on. Wow, I am impressed with that hair! Rod Stewart Side note - this is my idea of good disco. Same time frame exactly. 1979. From 3 minutes on this is pure gold. The B-52's |

Abbey: "Based on the title, I thought this thread would be an ode to the very heavy, but seamingly bombproof Old Town Discovery series of canoes, of which I have the 174 and hope to float it on rivers for many more years. " Whoops, maybe SV is right and I should mark this OT. Yup to much work for this guy. Heard a few tracks, decided I liked it and started thinking back......it's a bit foggy but I'm pretty sure I can remember a pair of platform shoes and some polyester bell bottoms (the Horror!). |

TomT: "MT, remember this one? Do You Think I'm Disco Ah, yes!! I believe I still have that 45. This is the camp that I was - and still am - firmly entrenched in. Disco Still Sucks. Was driving around with a friend the evening of Disco Demolition - really wanted to be there but figured it would be packed. It was. So we went to Venture and looked at records, then drove around some more & then saw how it went down on the news. A good friend went,.. I'm still jealous. |

A DISCO post? LOL My fav from the disco era was the Bee Gees "Staying Alive". Back in the day ... I used to put on my polyester shirt, bell bottoms and platform shoes and head down to the big disco bars on Long Island NY on Saturday nights with my buds from Connecticut. Heck, I am dating myself. Geesh ... I am the same age as John Travolta. But I really was a ROCK fan back in the 70's ... I was an avid concert goer. Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Blue Oyster Cult, J Geils Band, Springsteen, Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who .... FUN TIMES Bee Gees Staying Alive 1977 |

timatkn: "TomT: "MT, remember this one? Do You Think I'm Disco B 52's were a trip. I ended up seeing them in concert but never the Ramones which I actually liked. Ended up seeing some Motown in concert but never any disco bands. Mostly a rock guy back in the day. Now I like Yanni and the Gypsy kings and contemporary Christian bands. Just not crazy about what passes for music much these days. Then I have to hear about billionaire J-Zee talk about white privilege. Um, exscuse me, I didn't get the memo. |

on the flip side, i really dislike this modern day country western music, much prefer the old artist like Jim Reeves, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty... |

Sort of like that first song I posted.........I didn't put that into the disco category or make the connection, I just knew I have always liked it. From a musician standpoint it is excellent.......piano and sax work fantastic! |

Haha: " Well you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a woman's man no time to talk...played at countless wedding receptions by wedding DJ's and every time the room goes off, from young to old - you haters have to admit this truth - same goes for most early Michael Jackson and Jackson5 songs " Jackson 5 and early Michael were NOT disco. Not even close. |

Then I remember at one of my friends house parties while blasting our classic rock that we liked, a few of us started doing our line dance moves. That was good for a laugh. |

I mean how else would we of known that Timatkn could dig the B-52's and Walleye 13 frequented the disco bars on Long Island and still has a man crush on John Travolta? Who knew? And TomT and I have something in common........both big Kinks fans back in the day. But we might be wearing out our welcome ;-) I will leave off with one of my favorites from "Drive By Truckers".........sort of the antithesis of Disco My Sweet Annette |

timatkn: "TomT: "MT, remember this one? Do You Think I'm Disco It's just fun! The wackyness after the 3:00 mark is so cool. I was into classic rock at that time bought those first two B-52 albums then. Highly recommended listening. They were called the worlds greatest party band. Here's a cool remix of a great tune. I have fond memories of blasting this in the car. My classic rock friends did not appreciate it. :) 52 Girls |

But the same happens to every style, how can todays canned country western compare to old Hank or The Outlaws? How can the new rock and roll compare to The Stones, The Animals etc.? How can anything compare to The Beetles or Floyd? Of course my kids will think the same when they get my age only it will be some band like Pumpkins, or Nirvana. These are my opinions of course, others might disagree. But as in politics, I'm right of course and everyone else is wrong!!! |

" Me too. At least I can appreciate the OT Disco CANOE for it's attributes. Nothing to appreciate about Disco IMHO? While the hordes were listening to Disco, wearing their polyester and high heels (And I mean the guys too if you didn't grow up then) in the '70's, my buddies and I chuckled and made fun of them. We were wearing jeans, having parties in the country, and listening mostly to that good southern/country rock like the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Skynyrd, CDB, Marshall Tucker, Pure Prairie League, etc. Then, for that "Quiet" time, when you were taking your girlfriend home or "Parking" we might switch over to a cassette of some of that good old Motown like the "Commodores" and the "Temptations." Lionel Richie's voice could charm the........well, use your imagination. PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE COMMODORES |

I agree with Guest Paddler that disco music gets people on the dance floor and the Four Step Hustle is still taught as a beginning dance. |
