I saw/heard beavers on floats last week. Isn't there a base on Sea Gull? I figured they were operating out of there.

I read somewhere that there were a number of small lightning caused fires in the Quetico/Superior in the past few weeks. Not big enough or threatening enough to be newsworthy but probably the cause of the extra airplane traffic.

We were on Bald Eagle last week. We heard military planes doing exercises all day long. We even thought we heard one sonic boom. Is there a training base in Ely or something?

Duluth Air National Guard. MOA Snoopy, however south of the b dub and above 6000ft. That is the sound of freedom. I remember after 911 they were the only planes in the air.

Shagawa lake in Ely has a forest services seaplane base. In fact it is the only seaplane base forest service has anywhere.

Just got back from my 2nd trip to the BWCA. First time was about 25 years ago. Was an awesome trip. We did 40+miles in 7 days. One thing I had noticed was all the dang airplane noise. What's the deal? I always thought the BWCA was a no fly zone.

Getting dry? Extra fire patrols?

Forest service planes are patrolling the area. It’s not a total no fly zone. That would make no sense. They have to fly over 4000 feet above as I remember. Also rescue planes can land on lakes to get people.
