Goldenbadger: "What are the best websites to go to for info on currently burning fires in the BW & Q?"
This site includes an interactive fire map (zoom in on Quetico):
http://www.gisapplication.lrc.gov.on.ca/ForestFireInformationMap/Index.html?site=AFFES_ONLine&viewer=AFFES_ONLINE&locale=en-US

It appears the only threat in QPP (prior to last night's storms) is the Russell Lake fire (7400 acres), which has triggered some areas to be closed to camping.

(sorry, add-a-link function not working for me)

Wow, that’s a cool site! Why can’t MN/US come up with fire info sites as good as Ontario?

" I like that in the distant/wide view you can see where the fires are, but when you zoom in close it shows the perimeter of the active fires and the areas where campsites and portages are closed. It's been very helpful, especially during Gary's big trip this year.

Scroll down to Quetico, a fire ban is in effect

It's a little harder to find info on smaller fires in Mn and the BW

Not sure of the answer. However I can tell you a fire started yesterday in the Snowbank Lake area. The south side of the lake, Pickerel Bay area. The kek trail could be affected. They are fighting it with helicopters now. The forest service has a incident web site. But the local sources are more accurate and timely.

Yeah, that’s what made me wonder about websites. I read a quick blip about the Snowbank fire and was hoping to find more info on that fire and one that is/was burning in the Q. I’ll see if I can find anything out from the FS.
