We bought our first canoe from a couple who decided that two solos were better for their marriage.

A long time ago, I was part of a tandem cycling email group among who the general feeling was that if you didn’t like tandems then your relationship was poor. We hated having our feet and every motion locked in sync, but seem to have made it for 33 years so far.

A tandem canoe seems to fit us just right."

Once upon a time my husband and I considered a tandem bike but quickly realized it wouldn't work because we have totally different cadences. But we have been canoeing in tandem for the 32 years we have been married.

We were married 23 years ago by my husbands grandfather who was a pastor. He had 2 paddles, on one was written companionship and the other was written commitment. His sermon was about how you can't have one without the other to make the canoe (marriage) go forward.

In the past year, I have officiated two weddings for young family members and friends. I never thought I would enjoy it that much... It was fun and rewarding.

Our usual canoe group has a couple potential "customers" for me and I have started looking for articles comparing life and marriage to canoeing. I saw one recently with nice ideas and wording on Flipboard, MSN, or somewhere online, but can't find it now.

Anyone have ideas?

Make up a big long story about canoeing in a tandem canoe is like being married. Both must paddle/work together or canoe/marriage will go crooked. I am sure that could be stretched out long enough for a speech.

What a wonderful thing to do! I think Wick has a great answer. I have a couple of songs with that in mind, but probably not right for a wedding.

Wife and I were married at Mudro entry point (EP 23) 13 years ago this Sept 12.

The cake at the Chainsaw Sisters was the most appropriate!

A tandem canoe is a good metaphor. And like a marriage there are a lot of ways to deal with a tandem canoe. The racers hup and perfect sync may get you going the fastest but may not make for a good time for all people. In forum discussions about canoeing there are a number of approaches. For my wife and I we canoe sharing responsibility. I follow her side changes unless I know I need something different for steering. Then she follows my requests. But the most important relationship to our marriage is that this isn’t a pattern we immediately knew from the beginning but something we developed together over the years.

Enjoy doing the wedding. I’m jealous as I’ve always wanted to do one but my one opportunity decided to get married elsewhere.

Ask Dan for the custom option of stained glass nylon windows. :)

Sweet! A 1.1 oz per square yard camping cathedral! Love it.

You should consider getting Cooke Custom Sewing to make you a tarp/tent type portable wedding pavilion out of white silnylon! Maybe sometime with a spire peak and some catenary corners, open on one side. Google search small wedding tent images for ideas. Could probably be done and not weigh more than 2-3 lbs, but would make the wedding photos extraordinary!

Or just a CCS tarp or lean shelter for the wedding and as a wedding present!

BTW, if you google canoeing and marriage there are a ton of hits. Maybe that's why the OP couldn't find the one they remembered.
