WhiteWolf: "Word has it that it's snowing this afternoon in the Brainerd, Merrifield and Park Rapids area. Pinetree-- any flakes you can confirm??
" Yes nice big scattered snow flakes falling right now, just kind of floating down on a dead calm day. Not going to amount to anything, kind of neat, but still would like alittle fall yet.

I noticed if like I have like a brown-gold tinged sunglasses when sun is out the leaf color sticks out so much more and brighter.Really filters the light. I wonder what color sunglasses would be the best?

Pictures taken Saturday. Colors a little brighter inland from Superior. There were pockets of maples with color inland, however I think peak will be in 1 or 2 weeks.

We had are first frost of the year at 29 degrees F. in Brainerd. Leaf colors I think will peak in the Walker-Longville area mid week and already a lot of gorgeous Maples. The Longville-Walker area fall colors are some of the best in the state. Brainerd area a lot of green still, will see now that I checked this morning and my bird bath had almost a 1/4 inch of ice. Hope they just don't just fall off?

The National Weather Service in Duluth reported 3 inches of snow had fallen in McKinley, Payne and at Sea Gull Lake near the end of the Gunflint Trail, with 2.5 inches at Snowbank Lake northeast of Ely and 2 inches in Grand Rapids, Cook, Coleraine and Grand Portage.

missmolly: "Mr. Tree, are you seeing mostly sugars, reds, or a mix? In Downeast Maine, we have mostly reds, which they call swamp maples, but houses often out a sugar or two out front, planted when young marrieds moved into the house. " color advancement
Mostly sugar maples but red maples are present in at least the east half of the state and I believe to the Canada border.

That looks wet and cold. Reminds me of wet sloppy days in the deer stand. I hate it when branches take a beating. With all the melting did you get a couple of inches? I see some places got 3-5 inches of wet stuff.
Thanks for the photo.

A couple, but it's going fast. Natures way of thinning out the woods. A lot of branches and trees down.

Well tonight with a little fresh snow coming the leaves will peak in a hurry. Seasons are changing fast and the next 10 days sound like wet and dreary weather. A little sunshine would be nice.
