Many thanks for those on the wilderness issue on both sides of this hot issue back in the day. Many sacrifices were made by both sides. If this never happened it would be likely that there would be roads and cottages and private property everywhere.

Not unless the Feds had changed their minds about the withdrawal of 1,159,700 acres of that land from the US land office, which took place between 1902 to 1908, that prevented it from being sold and settled in the first place. That land would have had to be sold on the open market at some point between then and the Wilderness Act. The wilderness designation just changed how a portion of the federal lands would be used.

They are good articles and interesting to remember how it almost didn’t happen. Maybe not much discussion is happening because people don’t want to resurrect any of the old arguments over motors or current ones over mining. But I do like thinking about how special the BW is to me.

Me too. When I think of Jimmy Carter I think of someone whom was a better man and humanitarian than politician. (Hmmm, maybe it's impossible to even BE a good man AND a good politician?) But, those of us whom enjoy the BWCAW will be forever in his debt!
