Wow, impressed that they will be paying wages for people who worked in the Cook store until it re-opens!

I think I"ll make a few more trips to our store in Ely, I'm guessing some of the wages will come out of the coffers of some of the other stores?

I think the Northern Lakes link is to the general area food bank. There is a comment field and maybe you could say to send the money to Cook. Or just send Cook Food Shelf a check. I don’t write many checks but some of them are for the local charities up there.

Hope they make through winter okay. I always stopped there...I mean where else in town? Hope the rebuild is sooner rather than later...

They started tearing down the old building last week. I am no construction expert, but if they want to open by the tourist season they better move fast. JIM P.

My guess is the employees will go on unemployment and the grocery will supplement that.

Possibly, though an employer pays for half of the unemployment payments anyway when their employee files for unemployment.

Wow, continuing to support employees while rebuilding... that is solid.

Cook, MN lost its only grocery store to a fire last night. It is going to be a long winter.

Zups has had some bad luck. 7 years ago their grocery store in Babbitt caught fire and burned. They rebuilt the store in Babbitt, good thing for the people of Babbitt. Almost 40 miles round trip to Ely to get food. "Zoops" in Cook will rebuild and continue to pay its employees until the reopening before summer.

Thank you for sharing the news and tip Adam. Our town and one other nearby that is much smaller have suffered grocery store fires. It’s a big loss to a town.

The one in Aurora closed a few years ago.
