YetiJedi: "Thanks for the update, Tuscarora! Very encouraging news! My first trip is out of this entry point in less than 5 weeks so I really appreciate the pics and news." When do you put in? I am going solo starting on 5/29 from ep 37. |

I wish I was more proficient with my reports, TB. :) My plan is to head in the week before Memorial Day and return 6/3. I'll be home a week before heading back to Baker Lake for a week with my two youngest daughters. When do you head out? I'll do my best to at least send you any relevant intel...it's the least I can do for all of the good stuff I've gleaned from your extensive library of quality trip reports! To be honest I'm pretty sure anything I share outside of where I saw wildlife you already know about. :) |

YetiJedi: " Not really necessary. Was just giving you some (hopefully) good natured ribbing. :) But yes, we'll be entering the weekend following your scheduled return/exit. |

TB-I always have great intentions to write trip reports, but I have only managed to complete one. Reminds me of some lyrics from a Neil Young tune: "One of these days I'm gonna sit down and write a long letter To all the good friends I've known One of these days, one of these days, one of these days And it won't be long (it won't be long), it won't be long (it won't be long)" But that darn letter never gets written! |

Obviously still ways to go but it was encouraging to see some areas of water (not open) on the surface. Lots of moose tracks along the road(s) along the drive. Still several pockets of knee deep snow around but, it is not compacted and should go quickly when it warms up again. The road is has been cleaned of all fallen timber and the only minor concern was that it was "soft" in a few spots. Because cell service seems to be a question that comes up on a fairly frequent basis, I will also mention that my brother just happened to call just as I was pulling up to the landing/campground and we had a 20+ minute conversation without interruption/loss of signal. |

The forest roads in this area (Kawishiwi Lake, Finland, Isabella etc.) were ALL completely clear of those type of impediments. However, it appears there may soon be some spots that experience flooding/washout problems. But, barring huge rainfalls just prior, I don't think that will be an issue once the reserve able permit season commences. I did also try to make it up the Tomahawk Road too. There has clearly been some traffic heading eastward but, the amount of snow/slush still on that road turned me back after the first few miles. |

quark2222: "Curious, Tuscarora - What cell service were you using? Thanks. Verizon I checked after and only had one bar but, apparently, it served its purpose. |

Not sure on Yeti's exact date in May??? But....I'm almost certain he wanted to have a full report written up shortly after the return of the Jedi for those who may be entering @ Kawishiwi Lake in mid-June. LOL I strongly encourage you (Frenchy19) to do the same. |

Twins87: "Thanks for posting... my first trip is out of EP37 the first full week of June so for anyone who returns before then... would love to know how things are looking. Under 7 weeks and counting.... " Watch for a guy in a solo black Swift Keewaydin paddling aimlessly...that will be me! Safe travels to you. |

We'll be in a tandem of some sort... likely my black Northwind 17. FYI...The reflector oven I bought from you several years ago has made a very nice home in our teardrop camper.. it has gotten lots of use! |

Used to chastise my students about not reading carefully...and here I am doing the same thing. |
