Boppasteveg	11/27/2023 08:59AM   This is a bummer! The first tent I bought new with paper route money was an orange 2-man Eureka Timberline. I love that tent! It was stolen out of my truck in 1995 so I bought a green 4-man and am still using it. Those things last many, many years! I am tempted to look on their site to see what's available.

It's a heavy tent ,but we were just staying on Seagull, so I decided to give it some love. An Alpine Meadows is basically a 4man Timberline with a center hoop giving it added head and shoulder room. Very spacious for 2 guys." We were fans of the two person variety but eventually went to lighter tents. It was a great design for many purposes.
snakecharmer	01/08/2024 07:57PM   Another nostalgic Alpine Meadows owner. I still use it in the BW occasionally on light portage trips. It was ahead of its time when introduced IMHO. But there are much lighter options these days. My son still has his Timberline, closing in on 20 years. My wife actually worked at Johnson back in the 1990s. Loaded up on all their camping/fishing equipment at the time (employee discount) and still have most of it.

nctry	01/05/2024 10:16AM   First thing I did is bought 4 Alumacraft canoes and four eureka timberline tents three four man and one two man… I didn’t want anyone to say they couldn’t come with cause they didn’t have a canoe or a tent! Haha! Those things held up pretty good. One bad storm on Nina Moose in the mid eighties had one tent left with poles like a pretzel… but otherwise. Never really a problem. And easy!
Pinetree	11/08/2023 07:32PM   Very sad for decades Timberline was number one in the BWCA. I used one for 50 years Two tents in that time. This is a big blow to tradition. Well any other Eureka fans shedding Tears?

Pinetree	11/08/2023 07:32PM   Cliff Jacobson 6h · Just a heads up! Sorry to say that Johnson Camping is phasing out their Eureka! division, to focus on their Jet Boil and Cooking products. Tents, packs and accessories will be available through 2024, then it's water over the dam. Eureka! made great tents for not a lot of money. With the division closing, best buy that Eureka! tent or pack now! I think their remaining inventory will go fast. Eureka
MikeinMpls	11/09/2023 09:51AM   I used a Eureka Timberline four-person for years, until I wore it out. Then I bought another. I also inherited a two-person I used for solo trips. I put a vestibule on each end of the four-person models, and we had ourselves a large shelter with lots of outside, but out-of-the-rain storage. Not the lightest tent, but bombproof. Easy to set it up. I'm bummed out. Mike
andym	11/11/2023 12:16AM   Shedding tears and also realizing that we had moved on to lighter tents. You can find a longer thread in the Gear forum. Might be why few people are commenting here.
bapabear	01/14/2024 06:00PM   Two good partners my Timberline and Apex. Both still going strong after years of use and tender care. This news saddens me but I will nurse these as long as I can.
bottomtothetap	01/01/2024 03:40PM   Darn this thread! I saw here that Euraka tents were going to be discontinued and felt that I then just HAD to have one. I DON'T NEED another tent! I already owned five--three of which have been to the BWCA. Well I now own six--Santa (errr...Mrs. bottomtothetap) brought me a Eureka Timberline 4, just so I can now say I've owned this classic tent. I was told that it was purchased for well under $200 which seems pretty good so I guess it's worth keeping and I'm now looking forward to camping with it on my next BWCA adventure!

The El Capitan DOES look really nice but, even discounted that was about $200 more for a tent that, again, I don't really need!

okinaw55	11/24/2023 09:43PM   I think Mike gets his love of Eureka! because they were Cliff's tent of choice for us kids he took up north. :) I think Cliff chose them because he felt they were bomb proof. I didn't honestly care for the A frame style.

Not the lightest tent, but bombproof. Easy to set it up." Yeah, so many memories. Started when my spouse introduced me to the 2 person variety and we schlepped it to Norway for a trip. Used it in BW when my eldest was a baby. Then had two more kids and bought a 2-door 4-person Timberline. Set it up with 2 vestibules and slept family of five on many BW trips. We slept crossways with mom and dad at each end and three kids down the center. Lost that tent in divorce and often contemplated replacing it, but never found a 2-door T4 again.
