That's got to be him! Thanks! Same color canoe...when I saw his self-portrait sitting in camp I became quite certain it was him, but in his truck he was wearing a bandana so I'm not sure about the hair. But I am quite sure that's him...

So Chief Bob....was it you???

This is really silly...I'm super happy to know who I passed on a highway. LOL. I'm 99% sure it was him, anyway.

Nojobro,
I thought I'd replied last night, but I guess it didn't go through. Yes, I was wearing a red bandana while I drove up, so it must have been me. As far as hair color goes, what little I have is white. Were you the person that gave me a "thumbs up" as you passed?

I'm from the Indianapolis area and drove up to my brother's place in Crystal Lake IL Friday evening. I drove up to Solon Springs WI on Saturday and then hit Duluth's Canal Park Sunday morning. After dropping some cash at the Duluth Pack Store, I motored up to Ely and put in on Monday.

I think there are more sawyer Autumn Mists per capita in Indiana then in any other state. People get excited over them, dave Yost should get someone to build more. I do not think SuperiorCanoes has actually built one, though he says he can.

hummm?

AAh ok we have a galena river here just 10 miles away and I was thinking that maybe that would be a good wingnite get together paddle.

and were you driving north on WI Hwy 53 last Saturday, the 5th? If so, I'm the grinning idiot who passed you between Sarona and Spooner. Nice canoe, and nice BWCA.com decal. ;-) I assume you were headed up for a trip...how did it go? (I was taking the kids up to our cabin.)

My guess is he's not done with his trip yet, if indeed he was going to the BW. He would have probably put in on Sunday, since this was about 2:15 and he was probably still 4-5 hours away. Hope he's having a good trip.

Out of boredom/curiosity....I did some detective work. canoe42 owns a Sawyer Autum Mist and lives in the Chicago area. He may have taken that route if he was headed up. Just an fyi....

Is there a Galena River in IL? That would be my guess.

Just bringing this to the top, really. I hope the person who it is sees it and hasn't stopped coming here.

I hate this thread because it reminds me of my Autumn Mist. I traded in my grumman for a brand new solo and took it on its maiden voyage to Quetico only to total it by letting it go over a small drop on a swollen creek.

I didn't have a camera with on that trip and consequently have no pictures of that canoe. It was white with black trim and the lines were beautiful. I was extremely sad for a long time after that and learned a huge lesson about the power of water. Today I never take chances.

Nope. I do have a Sawyer Autumn Mist, but unfortunately I wasn't heading north on 53 last Saturday. ... But I think I will go check on my canoe. :)

Could be! That would have put him leaving Chicago around 9am, if indeed he was coming directly from there and didn't have a bunch of stops.
