Very nice of you to offer. Between work, baby, 3 year old and maybe a little pheasant hunting I'm not getting out of town or very far anytime soon :)

Yes, a "Sandie" is a White Bass, a true bass. actually there are 'Hybrids' in this lake. Twice I have caught fish over 3lbs.., and I questioned their...parents. This past spring, I caught very few(dry spring), now I am hammering them. I dunno...just the way it's working this fall. Drilled them again this morning, did not cut any, not enough time. No "really good" restaurant in area(small town), but a GREAT burger and a standard-good breakfast place 4 miles away. Take a chance...leaves are almost peak here.

Thanks Marsonite, that's what I was thinking based on the size and location. One of my favorites, super fighters but not crazy about the taste(my opinion). Never heard the term sandie in Illinois, they have several different nicks, some around here refer to them as silver bass.
Now I love the taste of their somewhat smaller cousin the yellow bass.

The only time I heard a White Bass called a Sandie was while fishing in OK. It's definitely a regional name. White Bass can be very good eating if you remove the reddish strip of meat at the middle of the filet. Also, mixing a little celery seed in the breading somehow seems to neutralize that hint of fishy taste they have.
Wish I had time to take Bassnut up on his generous offer. Sound fun!
good Fishing.

What's the temp like down there this time of year? It's feeling like fall up here (30's-40's at night, 50-60's day).

When you said "sandies", I was thinking you were talking about Sand Pike, or sauger.

Bassnut I wish I had time to come down for the crappies alone, I love catching big crappies on light tackle. That is a very nice offer, hopefully someone is able to take you up on it.

we caught white bass in the bloodvein river, manitoba, several years ago. this was just about twenty miles from the river's mouth at lake winnipeg. we had no idea what they were but we ate them anyways. i'm not sure how edible they were.

Wallidave: now that's a HYBRID. Great fish. Right now, it's a little warmer than normal, maybe 48-50 at night and 80 during day(uncharacteristic low humidity, so big temp swings)...normal about 70-75 day 43-48 night...I've seen 20 and 90...kinda volatile. fortunately, very low tornado possibility(although I have a safe room)

I am hammering Sandies(from 12-18in.) and Crappie(10-16in) right now, and will continue 'til a huge cold front comes thru. I live on 100acres, 1/2mile from my put-in. Iam offering free camping to my BWCA brothers, darn near "fer sure" fishing. I just cut 15 Sandies and 4 Crappie from 2hrs. fishing..caught oodles(some small) on 2" white grubs. Anyway, you supply everything, I supply camping land for free. This pattern has held up for 3wks. now. You guys, in the northland...take a chance on a weekend getaway....fish by canoe...I have yet to see another boat...10.5hrs. from twin cities...I want BWCA forum people only, because you respect the land...
