Thanks!
It's a Goliath grouper. They used to be called jewfish, but a few years ago someone decided that the old name wasn't PC, so it was changed. The fish in the profile is a modest sized one at around 200 pounds, state record here in Florida is 684!!!

I have always thought of this photo as "Portrait in Green". Taken ten years ago on Horseshoe Lake, in June of 2001, at 7 AM on the ninth day of a ten-day journey we affectionately call "The Rainbow Trip". It was one of our favorite trips.

Trip partners for life...the start of something special! Photo of my 7-year old son and I fishing at sunset on Lake Three from our recent first-timer trip. Photo taken August 23, 2011 just west off of campsite 1516. If you look closely, you see him holding the rod with the line out in the water. He really loves fishing! :)

"Newbie No More". August 15, 2011 Lightning, thunder, downpour, hot days, no watch and no "the time is..." on the radio, beaver, eagles, mouse, chipmunks, smoke, multiple portages, fish with teeth and pointy fins, flys, mosquitos, ankle biters, squirrels, crappy sleeping pads, heavy packs, moose, boulders in the water and so, so, so much more... One more portage to go and she was already talking about taking a trip back this fall. Fitgers2, my paddle partner for many years to come.

at the last camp,at sunset, on Basswood Lake i gave Steve and Mark Hero Medals.it was the end of our two week trip thru the Q to celebrate my retirement.one of the subjects around the fire at night was a book we had by coincidence all just read, River Of Doubt about Teddy Roosevelts 1914 Amazon expedition.at the end of the trip Teddy gave out medals to the expeditions native crew, also by coincidence i brought along a couple Swiss hiking awards as a joke but being somewhat like Roosevelt, overweight and out of shape, the awards were appropriate!

Jeff, my son is my all time travel partner.
I chose this shot because of the good humor involved. Two years ago we put in at Baker Lake. John (passenger) has had shoulder problems and just wanted to "ride" along this trip. Terry (stern) has been my travel partner when Jeff does not come along. On this fine morning we were chugging along when I sensed the canoe getting harder to paddle. I quickly put my camera up over my head facing rearward and snapped this shot. Terry chose to take a long break and the two of them were getting their chuckles watching me do all the work.
