Have fun Jerry. Leaving tomorrow for Canada myself. Then out to see grandkids quick and back to a friend's wedding. My head is spinning. Haha!

Be aware the maps show the Ham Lake portage too close to the stream. The actual portage isn't far into the corner of the lake. We saw a couple ladies who said they were ready to give up the trip since they couldn't find the portage....until we came down the trail. We assured them, the maps are more accurate the rest of the trip.

nojobro, the first 2 portages are the hardest, then it gets much easier. Its a beautiful area and easy to navigate.

So close, yet so far. We will be driving through Grand Marais on the 16th, heading for Clearwater. Not heading home, which is only 1 hour from Madison, until the 22nd. Enjoy your time up north.

You were missed. Fun to chat briefly with "the kids" and hear their plans.

Echo BeaV's praise. Something fun about hearing the OneMatch songs played in the region where they were conceived. Forgot to request the song true and deep. It played in my head all night last night but I would have liked to hear it in person. Next time!

I'm 100% sure that's the one he means. Maps show the portage right next to the rapids that flow into Ham but it is actually at least 100 yards before you get there. The portage landing is in that little indentation/bay/cove before that little point near the rapids. You can't even see where the rapids flow into Ham from the actual portage landing.

My daughter and I were camped on the site right across from there 3 years ago and we saw several groups miss the portage and try to bushwack next to the rapids before finally giving up and paddling back to find the actual portage. I bet each group used up an hour of time. We were out fishing when one group came by and didn't believe me that they had padded by the portage landing and still tried to portage next to the rapids. When they finally gave up and came paddling back they didn't make eye contact.

In this picture the portage landing is the low spot in the trees in the top right and the rapids are out of the picture to the left of the trees right behind my daughter.

Not to steal the thread back, but my wife and I were able to see Jerry and Amberly Rosen at Sawbill on June 19th. The music was great and if you get a chance to hear Jerry in a unique setting like this take advantage. Bill Hanson accompanied on the steel guitar. We really enjoyed the evening, an hour and a half of non-stop music. Some old and some new.

Finally had the chance to see OneMatch perform in Ely this weekend- great job!

For those going to Gunflint, Grand Marais, or Sawbill areas soon, well worth saving a little time to see OneMatch and Amberly perform.

I think this is last summer's schedule and thread.

Still not sure how this thread found it's way back up here, BUT as to your question, we're still finalizing some dates and I'll let ya know soon. It's going to be MUCH busier than last year!
