somewhere somebody was trying to get photos of themselves with all of the toilet #'s. that would be a challenge.

So, are they really changing to the square thunderbox with lid? Stayed at that nice site south center if Lake One and saw one there. I like the rain and sun on the basic stool.

Hope not, the last one I was at was like that (square with lid) and it was way too tall for me. No fun to be dangling your feet in the air while on the "throne". I paid the teens $5 to build a step with a rock and some sticks, lol.
I also prefer the basic stool. Something doesn't fit right about that large cube.

Was told by a park ranger once when getting permit that the number on the toilet is in case someone needs help. If you can get word to them what lake and toilet number you are at they know what site you are on and can get to you quickly. This summer I saw 2 new toilets that are square with a lid, love them, and neither one has a number on it. Have they stopped numbering them or did they forget to number them? One was on Sawbill, Tofte station, the other on Agnes, Cook station.

It probably wouldn't make sense to pre-number the latines. There would be too great a chance for installation at incorrect sites. They are most likely numbered after installation, and they just haven't gotten around to it yet. But as Grandma L points out, an inquiry to the USFS might serve as a gentle reminder that the job still needs to be completed.

Do they also include a button for 'help, I've fallen and I can't get up'?

Maybe a call to the Forest Service - error or are they testing to see who notices? First one to report the "no number" boxes wins?

Even a Forest Service Ranger is a person with a sense of humor?

Sure glad I didn't need to dial for help from our camp's latrine last month. We were on Horse Lake, site #1116. This is Horse Lake's internal site #3 on every database out there, including the maps on this website. However, the latrine was marked with a '5.'
Granted, this was the first time that I have ever noticed such a discrepancy. I was only forced to double-check because this mix-up had prompted the guys to accuse me of mis-numbering the campsites on their maps. (A map in each canoe with numbered campsites helps immensely with communication.)

I recall finding numbers on the latrines in Ima Lake and Thomas lake areas. It seemed that they corresponded to the campsite numbers as well. I always look now on the latrines but have not found numbers on others in the Seagull area for instance. I know I have seen some of the new thunder boxes, but none have been numbered. I am wondering if they have dropped the practice?
