The most widespread theory is that horses evolved in the Americas and migrated west to Asia. They then went extinct in the Americas (like the mammoth) ~10,000 years ago before being re-introduced by the Spaniards in the early 16th Century. But apparently there are some other ideas out there that I have never heard of, contending that the North American horse didn't go extinct. Interesting stuff... The Aboriginal North American Horse |

quote Pinetree: "The Horse story is interesting. I've met that guy Darcy Whitecrow. He's a very interesting and great guy. He has a great facebook page -- plays the guitar among many other talents. He took his two oldest boys out on Ranier for a winter -- just trapping and living off the land. |

quote thistlekicker: "The horse thing IS interesting. That's really interesting. I always marvelled at how the Plains indians could have acquired horses AND the skill to use them in such a short time. The Lac lacroix ponies are cool too. I have a friend in Northern MN who got some from an old Finnish guy who got them from the Lacroix village. I can attest to their friendliness. |
