Lake Louise last summer...........

only SR Green canoe on the lake...rest were all red rentals...

was very interesting portaging the canoe through the crowds especially on the way out...parking lot was way crowded.

way cool.

Also did Waterton which was a lot less crowded.

I got my free park pass earlier this year and I am excited to revisit the Canadian Rockies at the end of September.

Planning on Banff, Jasper, Yoho, and possibly some of the other provincial parks in the area.

I am hoping the crowds will have thinned out some by the time I go. It will be a bit chilly and there are fire bans in effect for the area so no campfire to keep warm. Maybe that will deter some of the visitors in the campgrounds ;-)

We stopped at Pukaskwa National Park for a day while camping at one of the Ontario Provincial Parks.

We were hoping to paddle Hattie Cove but it was a blustery, rainy day so that will have to wait for another trip. Probably would have visited anyway, even without the free admission.

So did anyone go? All I can say is that the Canadian Rockies rock. We went through Glacier and then up through Kootenay, Yoho to Banff and Jasper. Incredibly beautiful. By the time we got to Jasper it was getting pretty smokey from the record number of fires in BC. Maligne Lake visibility was about a mile so that was a bit disappointing so we played the "short game" and spent the afternoon in Maligne Canyon. That was a really fun place to spend an afternoon. Yes it was crowded, especially Banff. Lake Louise was a zoo, even early in the morning. Overated as there are many other glacial lakes that are as scenic and less crowded. I hate tour busses. Jasper was much less crowded. Takakkaw Falls in Yoho, Marble Canyon in Kootenay were excellent and not crowded.....off the tour bus route.

They'll get the cost of the permit back from their gas which is over a buck a gallon more expensive, as is everything else in Canada

Still waiting. I think some folks believe this applies to the Provincial Parks as well, but it does not. National parks only is my understanding.

The best is a listing of every park in Canada that will have free admission...such as Waterton, Banff etc,
Quetico ain't one of them though
way nice...planning to use it this summer
