For those that might have missed the thread in the general category, the Ambrose Bucktail is an old fly that was popular in the early to middle part of the last century. The fly is mentioned in Sig Olson's book, "reflections from the north country". Dr. Preston Bradley, of chicago, would take this fly alone on canoe trips into the BWCA/Quetico for targeting bass.
The fly below has a bead body on it, but the original used a yellow chenille with a silver mylar rib.
Thought some of you fly fishers out there might be interested in trying one of the originals!

I am not a fly tier. Could these be purchased and if so where?

I can't say that I have seen them for sale at a fly shop, but most fly shops will tie specific patterns for you. Just print the recipe and take in to them. I am going to try and tie a few, but I am by no means a good fly tier. I will post some pics when I get a chance to tie a few.
