Tight Loops

They work extremely well for smallmouth. I've also done very well with articulated flies on pike and walleye with a sink tip line.

I had good luck with pike with a articulated fly called "Mikes Meal Ticket". Sink tip line and a leader.

We will be going up to Quetico in in three weeks so I am tying my flys for the year. I have had great success using a bucktail streamer with peacock herl and barbell eyes. This year I am tying several two hook articulated flys. This afternoon I tied two using black marabou, two # 6 streamer hooks and barbell eyes. I will also tie a few olive marabou two hook flys. Has anyone used these type two hook flys for small mouth bass?

Just returned from 30 days at our camp near the French Lake entry to Quetico. The black articulated marabouf # 6 flys were great on smallmouth bass. I quit using other flys except for a few poppers. I had an old very small Hula Popper and tied an olive marabouf skirt on it. It out produced all other poppers. Give it a try. It was not designed for a fly rod but I had no problem casting it with my #8 rod.

Are single flies with tandem hooks legal in the boundary waters?

Good point about the Rapala... A brace is a set up with standard dropper flies?

I don't see why not. A Rapala has three treble hooks. I do know you can have a brace of three flies on the same line.
