Usually I buy stuff and then tell my wife I can get x dollars for the old one. Usually the stuff doesn't seem to sell though.

So I went to South Bend one Saturday a few years ago bought a used Prism and slipped it into the garage before she saw it.
I have a third car garage she rarely enters.
When she saw it I said, "That old thing? It's been there for a while."
She gave me the fish eye, but I have the boat.

This has not been my experience in marriage. Most of my boats are solos and all were acquired after the fact. I would attribute this to open communication, trust, and good will toward something that she knows is important to me. Perhaps the other folks have those assets in their own relationships, and there are other factors not being discussed. At any rate, congrats to the OP on tying the knot. I hope you have better luck getting your sweetie out on the water that I have.

I call this the 48 hour rule. Once 48 hours passes, it becomes a long time piece of gear. Never tried this with a canoe though, yet that is.

I've managed to buy three solo canoes over the past few years. I intend to keep two of them. I found that it helps that I also bought my wife a rowing skiff and a rowing rig for one of our tandems. So, my solos are partially presented as an opportunity for us to go out together, just in two boats.
I did meet someone who bought back his old solo. It is a fairly rare Wenonah C1 Whisper with a blue gel coat added that may make it unique. He sold it once when he needed money for health reasons and then, when he was better, decided he wanted to get another solo, responded to an ad and discovered it was his old boat. I just bought it from him. So he also sold it twice. This time because he is spending his time sculling and has limited storage space.

+1 for Kona. I would sell if I needed the cash now. It can be replaced later when desired or needed although you may not get the duplicate of your current solo.

In 2008, I purchased this canoe second hand from a canoeist in Ely. The 16' 6" canoe has a fair amount of wear on the bottom, as you can see in the photos, but other than that is in excellent shape. I have taken the canoe on five wet-boot solo trips in the BWCA and Quetico, three 10-day trips, and two shorter trips. I am 6'2'', 165 pounds and found this canoe perfect for these trips. Canoe weight is just over 30 lbs. I am pretty sure this is the UL model based on pictures and descriptions on Wenonah's website. I have also paddled on lakes in the Twin Cities. Stored year round in a garage since I bought it. Asking $1,100.
The canoe comes with a portage yoke and a thin foam seat. I just got married, so I am now looking for a canoe with two seats! Canoe is in Minneapolis.

I have been there. Do not sell your solo canoe. You will regret it. You clearly use it a lot. Just buy a second canoe. I am on my second wife. They both stopped paddling after a couple of years.

yes, i agree, do not sell! one never knows what you will do in the future, you have a solo boat now, keep it. find a tandem now at one of the outfitters.
