A native Golden Trout only lives in the Sierra Nevada (Kern watershed) near and above 13,000 feet and one place in Mexico. I have caught them and they are beautiful fish, but hard to get to. You really need to hike up from Bishop CA. Biologically it is considered a distinct species.

There is some in the Beartooth mountains of Wyoming and Montana. If you like hiking and trout fishing that is a great spot.

Sent this pic to a few buddies
Told them the DNR released 500 Orange trout statewide. Each fish is worth $100.00.and I caught one. All fell for it. On April fool's day even.....
Now.... I really did catch an orange rainbow. Made up the $$$$ story. What would have made the fish orange These are all released fish

We caught these in a 100-acre private pond in Pennsylvania with regularity. They are nuts for a nightcrawler under a bobber!

It's a rainbow trout, but the ones the pond stocked were all LARGE individuals, so bringing them up through an ice fishing hole was fun, too :)

A Palomino or Golden trout is a hybrid of a Rainbow. Very cool!

I just think it is a lack of pigment or color like some genetic thing. You can tell they were in a hatchery for a long time with the eroded tails and regeneration of the tail.

There's an orange rainbow mounted in my local fly shop. When I asked about it they told me that they're hatchery grown hybrids released as put and take novelty sport fish. I think they said Colorado stocks a lot of them. Haven't heard of them in my area of Wisconsin. Pretty cool!

The dark colored eye is a strong indication that this is a leucistic rainbow trout, rather than an albino.
What's the difference between albino and leucistic
If you do a google image search for "leucistic rainbow trout" you'll find lot's golden colored fish.

Looks like a Palamino to me ...... I have fished a stream in Western NC (Cherokee Indian Reservation, Raven's Fork River) and there were several Palamino trout put in one year. A buddy of mine caught one and it was large (25-26 inch). When you fish moving water trout are not always easy to see. Believe me, the Palomino trout are not hard to spot at all. I was fishing with my son several years ago and we saw one near the tailout of a run. I threw to it several times, got bit, handed the rod to him, and a few seconds later it came off. They are a beautiful fish.

Now that I did a little research I'm leaning toward ..palimino... cool fish.

Pennsylvania stocks quite a few palaminos, they look like big creamcicles in the creek. They usually don't last long because they stick out and they'll be 10 guys casting at them.
