quote Pinetree: "Some of the most successful stockings of Muskie in Mille lacs lake were when they stocked the Wisconsin strain in the lake in 1984 and again in 1988. Some of those Muskies reached age 20 and were in the 52-54 inch range and were State records if they would of been kept. A northern pike now if it reaches 10-12 years is getting old." 1984 was also the 1st year they stocked my local lake with muskies (waconia) i had read they were leech lake strain ,

It could of been. I think at that time they were using both strains. Their leech lake source of eggs were limited than. I know by 1991 it was all leech lake strain in Minnesota I think. They are easy to ID from each other due to the patterns on their side.
They did stock the Shoepack strain from Shoepack lake up by Voyguers(sp) National park in 1969 in Mille lacs, but very few survived. Much of the early stocking of Muskie was Shoepack strain in all of Minnesota, which trend to average much smaller usually. Luckily the shoepack strain did not do real well in many areas.

Dr Musky's notes: Third attempt to communicate with the humans has failed. Beginning to lose hope.
