You might be a casualty of the typical high acid American diet.........investigate alkaline diets and the health benefits including joints.
Along the same line you may be having an adverse reaction to wheat. Today's wheat is nothing like the original and lots of bad reactions concerning joints and inflammation could be the result. Read the book "Wheat Belly" to truly understand how harmful today's engineered wheat really is.
Lastly you might also be deficient in magnesium.

Keep moving them. Don't let them grow stiff. Simple movements that don't wear at the joints. Stretch your forearms too. If you get carpel tunnel then you want to look up stretches for that. Movement and stretching is really the simplest and best option. You can take supplements like fish oil or others too.

Anything that I can do to keep the digits limber enough to tie knots and the like? I am realizing the the fingers don't work like they used to.

Didn't consider that. I have been on the Whole 30 diet for about 40 days now. I'll have to try some knots and see if that's helping. Otherwise, I'll up the magnesium and see it that helps. Thanks for the insight.
