One good thing usually the BWCA you don't have slop fishing.

But around home today I was fishing heavy water sheild and water lilies with a top water lure. Well I got snagged all the time on lilies.
Switched to a floating frog with two hooks facing up.
Worked good in not getting snagged but it tends not to snag fish either. Had about 25 bass hits today and caught about 7. That is a lot of missed bass.
Love surface lures, but got to figure how to fish heavy lily pad area?

I can't say I've ever heard of slop fishing. Sounds bad.

Maybe something on a big weedless hook.....like a mouse or tadpole. Sounds sloppy. :). Never heard of slop fishing before either, but think I know what you mean.

Or wish they had a weedless Savage Duckling with a miniature weed-mulching mud motor!
Snag City alot for me too. Let alone hook rate percentage. "

Tried one of those weedless frogs today with a two prong hooks facing upward. Wet thru the lilypads great and had lot of strikes, but bass were only on for a second. Was not hooking them very good. Going to try to sharpen hooks a little.

Best alternative is head north to the BWCA or Quetico for awesome smallmouth fishing and few weeds.

I've also never heard of slop fish. I use a Carolina rig with a plastic worm. The hook goes into the worm making it weedless. You just cast it out and a fsteady retrieve, then hold on. You can feel it bounce off the weeds and then you feel the hit.

Rig a ZMAN ShadZ with a 2/0 hook and nothing else. Work slowly on top, they float. Line twist won't be an issue if you work it slow enough. Better hook up ratio than the frogs.
