Make the long portage into wood lake for a day of fishing smb.

Short paddle across Fall Lake from the campground is the portage to Newton Lake. Haul your kayak over the portage and then paddle back around and fish in the current of Newton Falls. Some of the smallmouth in there are a very interesting red color. Also, just east of the boat ramp are a couple of islands, I had some luck fishing near them.

If you're able to portage your yak a longer distance, consider going to Ella Hall Lake from the east end of Fall Lake.

Also, try putting in at Lake One and then heading to the rapids that come out of Lake 2. Not the portage to Lake 2, but the area marked on some maps as 'dangerous waters' I had a great time with the smallies there one day and there would be no portages.

Hoping to get some advice. First time in the area, beautiful country! Anyways, camping at Fall Lake campground this week. Got a fishing kayak and hoping to catch a few smallmouth bass. Fished yesterday with a guide on Shegewa Lake but caught only 1 SMB. Fished today on Fall Lake from the CG to the power station and caught none. The water on both lakes was not very clear, is this normal?

Any good ideas on a decent SMB lake that I can drive to and unload the kayaks?

Sorry for the greenhorn question but I'm a little discouraged and desperate....
