They both seem like they would be more trouble than they are worth. You could get a better fixed sonar for less.

Lots of info here on BWCA.com. No need to reinvent the wheel. These folks have refined and re-refined most everything on canoe camping. I would leave the transducer cable alone and just bundle it with zip ties. Get (2) 10 battery AA power packs. I like the ones that have the 9v connecter integrated into the pack that way they are easier to change out. Attach a 9v connecter to the power cable. I just put my battery pack in a zip lock bag and tape them a little bit to keep moisture out. I use a suction cup with about an 8" metal mending plate to attach the transducer.

They say the charge cycle on their batteries is 2-6 months depending on model.

I got a color Lowrance Hook for $79 and attached the transducer to a suction cup. Also have a b&w that is easier on the AA's. I'm with MT; I don't get it but to each their own.

How is that better than a $100 depth finder? Somebody, anybody, help me out here!

luckylaker deeper " I have the Deeper. I think it's exceptional in showing structure and fish. I have the trolling mount for my canoe rather than dragging it. The only issue is being able to charge the Deeper and what ever device you pair with it. The Deeper has a 6-7 hour charge. It cannot be charged during use. I've paired it with an old IPhone and that also needs to be charged. This can be done while in use. There are cheap waterproof cases that you can find to secure your phone.

The luckylaker is 85 on ebay. The Deeper is a fair amount more. They are small and compact.

My nephew just bought one of the deeper ones. He really likes it. He was showing me the sonar pages and they looked nice.

I don't get it? It syncs with your phone, is that the deal? Do you then take an expensive iPhone and get a holder for it why you drag a little ball behind? Do I have it right? Please tell me I'm wrong.

Thanks for the example. I do have a fish finder, but it requires a 12v power supply which i have rigged up with AA. It also requires a transducer. That needs to be connected and installed on the canoe and removed each time to portage. It has a lot of extra cords connecting everything. My batteries, transducer and fishfinder add up to a couple of pounds. It is also bulky. I have been leaving it at home because for me it more of a hassle. The Deeper type are wireless and use your phone or ipad as a screen. I usually take my phone with me anyways. The only added weight is the unit itself which weighs 3.5 oz. That is why I am interested. I did read a review that the distance of the blue tooth is limited. I don't think it would be a big issue for me as I would be just trolling with it behind the canoe. How well it can read structure would be a big question. I am sure it depends on the app. Battery life is another issue that I would be concerned with.

That is it. You can also toss it the left or right attached to your line. I suppose I would need a phone mount for my canoe. There are a number of youtube videos out there.

Down side is I would only use it during nice weather. My phone is not water proof. Good quality ziplock might solve the problem.
